Dr. Pennella encourages parents to bring in children of all ages for a checkup. The very first misalignment usually occurs at birth, and therefore it is vital that children begin their life with proper alignment.

On the first visit to our office, all children will undergo an exam to determine their level of care.

Infants up to 1 year old will be evaluated using observation, hands-on palpation and infant neurologic reflex tests.

Toddlers through preteens are evaluated through observation, hands-on palpation and a thermal scan of their nervous system.

Depending on the health history of a teenager, their exams will much resemble that of an adult in our office, including x-rays if needed, a complete (5 part) nervous system scan, a posture scan, and hands-on palpation.

At Stillpoint Family Chiropractic, we understand that sometimes babies get fussy. If this occurs during an exam, we recommend that the mother lay on her back on an adjusting table, and rest her child on her chest. This relaxes the child and allows Dr. Pennella to work. We also have a play area setup for the older siblings to make sure that everyone is comfortable.

How Is Chiropractic For a Baby Different For Adults?

The amount of pressure needed to adjust the spine of an infant is comparable to the light touch of your finger resting on your eyelid. Since the spine of a baby is made of cartilage at birth instead of bone, the amount of force needed to perform an adjustment is considerably less, and equally safe.

When Should a Baby Have a Chiropractic Checkup?

Due to the stress of giving birth (on mother and child) we recommend a checkup within the same week of delivery.

`` My son was born by C-section - he could not turn his head to the left, and the back of his head started to flatten dramatically on one side. We took him to 3 or 4 other chiropractors, but saw no improvement. The first adjustment with Dr. P. only took 5 minutes, and afterward our son of four months was turning his head to the left with no problem, and obviously in no pain.
